Hi gang,
I recently saw a post in welcome chat regarding no video from GoPro to screen, when video tx is working, and thought I would share my experience with you all. Hopefully someone can benefit.
After some repairs at Urban Drones (replacement of the stepdown power board due to no power to video tx or gimbal controller old version), I booted her up and found I still had no picture on the screen as follows:
GoPro and Video tx working, lights on, etc. wiring correct, but no picture or signal to the screen. For some reason I decided to switch the power leads that go: one to the video tx and the other to the gimbal controller. You can see they come from the same spot which is the separate stepdown power board below the main board. Turns out one lead had 12v and the other had only 5v. As soon as i switched them, presto, I had video! But ... now the gimbal controller would not work.
Turns out they both need 12v (you can read the input voltage requirements on both components), and the stepdown power board was wired incorrectly - they should both be 12v. With only 5v to the video tx, it will light up and make you think its working, but does not have enough power to push a signal to the screen.
This is another example of poor quality control at the factory, and in this case, also Urban Drones repair. Clearly nobody checked that video was working, and considering that's the reason I sent it in in the first place, that sucks. It seems that the stepdown boards can be wired as needed depending on the aircraft they are used in. They have a set of 12v contacts and another set of 5v contacts as well. If I can find the old unit I'll post pictures.
Rather than send it back in (duh), I made a jst plug Y-jack from the 12v power lead and powered both the gimbal controller and video transmitter from it. I just taped off the 5v lead and dont use it. In reality they come from the same spot on the stepdown board. Mine is now working this way, and I guess I also have an extra 5v lead now to use for something else!
Hope this helps somebody...
Alan
